2024!? Wild times and what an exciting year ahead for Enjoy. You know this first drop of the year is a banger. Coming off of back to back incredible washed coffees, it’s just time to dip our toe back in the natural waters of Juicetown aka Punto del Carro N-13 aka our first release from Guatemala!?

We got a really special coffee here from the highly acclaimed, award winning Villatoro family. Aurelio Villatoro is a second generation coffee producer whose farms are located in between the mountains and remote forests in the boarder region of Huehuetenango. The land was first cultivated by Aurelio’s father, the late Eleodoro Villatoro over 60 years ago. Now Aurelio, and his sons Rodin and Jenner, have moved the family farms into the specialty sector and have placed in the top 10 of Guatemala’s Cup Of Excellence many times over. CoTrade Coffee (CoTrade are the folks who brought us Andres Quiceno and Julio Madrid’s popular Catiope releases last year) has been working with the family for 7 years now and serve as an intermediary model with the aim of creating long lasting partnerships stateside.

The family has a couple of farms under their umbrella (Finca La Esperanza, Finca Villaure) and mainly focus on iterations of the bourbon and caturra varieties. This single variety lot of Red Bourbon was grown on Finca Villaure which sits at 1750 meters. The textbook detail and uniformity of this lot is second to none and is the quality foundation in which this incredibly clean, bright, and sweet naturally processed coffee sits upon. I cupped out a number of releases and offerings from these farms and the N-13 lot we have here, truly stood out. It presents more ‘honey’ processed than natural and has a refreshing and somewhat surprisingly snappy acidity to compliment the decadent body and deeper sweetness.

In the cup, you’ll initially get wowed by aromas of strawberry jam and chocolates. First sips lean into those notes too, and as the cup starts to cool the strawberry jam shifts to a brighter and refreshing pink lemonade note that is balanced with some tart cranberry and a honey-sweet finish.

Hyped and grateful to be releasing a coffee from the Villatoro family.

Excited to hit 2024 with some momentum.

Here’s to a great year ahead.

Let’s get it.
